Walt Disney World Resort, sometimes called only Walt Disney World or Disney World is a recreational resort famous for its theme parks and numerous hotels. The complex is operated by a division of the Disney Company, which owns. It is located in the Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake, Florida, outside the city limits of Orlando.
Construction began in 1967, less than a year after the death of Walt Disney. On October 1, 1971, just opened the park known as Magic Kingdom, the Epcot theme park resort, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
In addition to the four major theme parks, the resort has two water parks, six golf courses, a sports complex, a race track, 23 resort hotels and numerous shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. The total area of the property has more than 8094 ha and is the complex of theme parks in the world, although in the last decade, large tracts of land were sold for residential and other projects, including land now occupied by the town of Celebration, Disney built but administered.
Complex is accessible via Interstate 4, exit through 62B (World Drive), 64B (U.S. 192 West), 65B (Osceola Parkway West), 67B (SR 536 West) and 68 (SR 535 North ). Also in 2006 opened a new entrance via Exit 8 on State Road 429, known as the Western Expressway.
A fleet of Disney-operated buses on property, branded Disney Transport, is available for guests free of charge. In 2007, Disney Transport started a renovation of Guest Services to buses. Control systems SatellGPS new speaker systems on the buses give safety information, park tips and other general announcements, with music. They should not be confused with the Disney Cruise Line and Disney's Magical Express buses, which are operated by Mears Transportation. Taxi boats link some locations. Walt Disney World Monorail System also provides transportation at Walt Disney World.
Previously there were 12 monorails operativosaunque a collision in July 2009 meant that the monorails pink and purple were taken out of service. Parts of monorails pink and purple is used to create a new monorail greenish, which became operational in November 2009, bringing the total number of monorails to 11. They operate on three routes that interconnect at the Transportation Center and Ticket (TTC), next to the Magic Kingdom parking lot. One line provides an express non-stop link from the TTC to Magic Kingdom, while a second line provides a link from the TTC to Epcot. The third line links the TTC and the Magic Kingdom in Florida to complex contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand.
